  • Strong existing electronics manufacturing base.  Most of the world class electronics manufacturers have their manufacturing plants in Thailand.  AMD, Fujitsu, Lucent Technologies, Minibea, Mitsubishi, Philips, Read-Rite, Samsung, Seagate, Sony, Sharp, Toshiba, etc.  Now we are ready to help you make Thailand your high-tech manufacturing site.  Strong and competitive 18 IC packaging companies located countrywide will be your instant supporters.

  • Competitive and good quality engineers, technicians and managers with a long-term supply potential.  With its 63 million population and nearly 100 universities and 800 plus colleges, Thailand is producing annually 6,000-8,000 engineers in the semiconductor industry related areas.  This number largely exceeds those of Singapore and Malaysia, and promises your long-term success in Thailand.  Also, the numbers of universities and student enrollment are on the fast growth track.  English will not be problem for university graduates and is becoming a common language of new generations.  Thailand has to admit that up till present there was not enough challenging industry and government mechanisms to support these engineers to explore their abilities, and a number of these good engineers have to go abroad for high-tech experience.  Now, they are ready for high-tech industry in Thailand.

  • Increasing numbers of R&D centers in microelectronics and semiconductors.  Under National Electronics and Computer Technology Center (NECTEC), Thai Microelectronics Center (TMEC) has been established to serve the rise of microelectronics industry in Thailand.  Utilizing strong collaboration with more than 25 major universities, TMEC will provide prototyping of microchip fabrication services for IC designers.  TMEC with its submicron CMOS process facility once ready will give direct training for process and yield engineers for the wafer fabrication industry.  Semiconductor Researches at Chulalongkorn University, King Monkut's Institute of Technology, Kasetsart University, Chiang Mai University and others will be infrastructure to support the wafer fabrication industry in Thailand.

  • Fast growing number of IC design companies.  There are increasing number of IC design houses in Thailand both by local IC designers and foreigners.  Some of these enterprises are MTT (Thailand), NST, and R&D Computer Systems.  Recently an important Japanese company has started their design center as a new company in Thailand with a plan to hire 100 IC design engineers in 2 years.  TMEC/NECTEC will help recruiting and training of IC designers utilizing the Thailand IC Design Network with more than 15 universities in Thailand.  These universities are providing IC design courses and training such as VHDL, Verilog, lay-out design, etc.

  • Hi-tech business supporting environment.  One example is Thailand first Science Park, which is under supervision of Thailand's National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA, www.nstda.or.th ).  From 2000, Science Park can provide necessary infrastructure for hi-tech manufacturing companies to start their business in the park. NSTDA's three National R&D Centers (Electronics and Computer, Metal and Materials and Biotechnology) with about 1,000 researchers will be your powerful partners.  Services such as incubation centers, pilot plants, training centers and financial services are available.

  • Competitive investment incentives.  Board of Investment (BOI, www.boi.go.th ) of Thailand has been promoting wafer fabrication and IC design industry as its highest priority.  The scheme includes exemption of import duty on machinery and raw materials, exemption of corporate income taxes, for up to 8 years and more.

  • Financial Institutes.  As mentioned in the Cabinet Resolution, arrangement can be made with Thailand Equity Fund and/or other funds who will consider the joint-venture through their investment procedures, and with related financial institution who will consider providing financial support.

  • Good infrastructure and logistics with competitive costs.  High quality industrial estates with all necessary infrastructures are available.  Thailand, with its 40 years of development can provide enough electricity, water, land and logistics with very competitive cost performance.

  • Strategic location in Asia-Pacific.  At the center of ASEAN's 10 countries, Thailand is ready to serve as the REAL HUB for the region.  Thailand is also close to India and China both in relations and distance.  You can utilize this to get the best human resources from these neighboring countries to work with you in Thailand.

  • Free trade and open market environment.  It is known, worldwide, that foreign companies can thrive in Thailand.

  • Existing large and fast growing markets with surrounding high growth developing countries of more than 400 millions population.  Good relations with India and China will extend the number to about 50% of world population.
