Dial-up Installation: Window 95
Dial-up Networking (DUN) is the Microsoft 32-bit networking system
which is bundled with Win95. The native TCP/IP of Win95 use the PPP protocol to run
applications such as Netscape and Eudora. The advantage of using the Win95 TCP/IP is that
it allows you to run 32-bit applications.
Step 1 - Add Modem
- Click on START, SETTINGS, CONTROL PANEL
- Double-click on MODEM icon
- Click on ADD button
- Click on NEXT button, modem will be detected
- Click FINISH button. Modem will now be installed.
- Click on CLOSE button
Step 2 - Install Dial-up Networking
- Click on START, SETTINGS, CONTROL PANEL
- Double-click on ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS
- Click on WINDOWS SETUP tab
- Click on COMMUNICATIONS then DETAILS
- Check the Checkbox that says DIAL-UP NETWORKING
- Click OK on all menus all the way back to the control panel
(you may be asked to specify a name for your PC)
- Dial-up Networking will now be installed in the My Computer folder
- Restart your PC
Step 3 - Add TCP/IP
- Click on START, SETTINGS, CONTROL PANEL
- Double click on NETWORK
- Click on ADD, then PROTOCOL, then ADD
- Select MICROSOFT as the manufacturer, then TCP/IP as the protocol
- Click OK on all menus back to the Control Panel
- TCP/IP will now be installed
- Restart your PC
Step 4 - Set up your K12 access icon
- Click on START, PROGRAMS, ACCESSORIES,
then DIAL-UP NETWORKING
- Double click on MAKE NEW CONNECTION icon
- Enter "SchoolNet@1509" (Computer you are dialing). Click on NEXT
- In Area code box, enter area code (such as 02)
- In Telephone number, enter telephone number (1509).
- Change Country Code to "Thailand(66)".
- Click on NEXT. Click on FINISH. You now have the SchoolNet@1509 icon.
- Click on the SchoolNet@1509 icon. Click FILE, PROPERTIES
- Click on SERVER TYPE
- Uncheck "Log on to network", "Enable software
compression", NetBEUI, and "IPX/SPX Compatible"
- Select "PPP: windows95, windowsNT, Internet" in type of
dialup server
- Click on TCP/IP Settings
- Check the "Server assigned IP address" and "Specify
name server addresses" checkboxes
- Set the Primary DNS 202.44.204.36, Secondary DNS 202.44.204.63
- Click on OK until back at Dial-up Networking. TCP/IP is now set up.
- Double-click on the "My Computer" icon.
- Double-click on Dial-Up Networking.
- Double-click on SchoolNet@1509.
- Enter your username and your password. Click the Connect button
to dial
- Press F7 or click the Continue button to start PPP on your PC
- A "Connected to..." status box should appear
- Start your graphical applications.
- After closing all applications, quit by clicking the DISCONNECT
button.
