[/b]How to write an analytic essay[/b]
First of all, it depends upon for what class you are writing the paper. But, generally, I think, "analytic writing" should contain "critical thinking," which, I understand that, unfortunately and sadly, Thai students are never taught in schools in Thailand. Instead, they have always been taught to memorize--but hardly criticize and analyze texts, information, etc.
My point therefore is this: Thai students should--even must--learn to do this kind of "skill". The following is what one may do when asked to analyse text or any kind of information.
First, let's look at the word more closely: to analyze means to break down information. In literature sense, which I think, to a degree, can as well apply to other fields of study, "to break down" is to go "beyond what is there."
Take for instance:
The sentence "Dang is rich" is both general and descriptive in that it gives your readers the fact that Dang is rich, and it fails to break down--that is, to analyse--the fact as to why you say Dang is rich and if he is really rich. To be more critical here, one will observe that the word "rich" is ambiguous. What is "rich"? Can a person having two cars called/defined as a rich person? Or one car is enough to be recognized as rich?
Remember: To analyse is to break down; it goes beyond facts.
