ABSTRACT -- At present, traditional visualisation systems using conventional desktop display do not provide optimal tools for users to coalesce, interpret and interact with complex three-dimensional (3D) scientific data setd such as the results generated from Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) numerical analysis software packages. For the past few years, scientists have started to explore large scientific data sets in immersive environments (such as the CAVE) in real-time. Such 3D environments enable users to intuitively interact and instinctively understand the essence of the abstract data thus freeing users to concentrate on the research task at hand. In this paper, a generic approach for scientific data visualisation is presented. Several applications, which involve the data visualisation of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Electro-Magnetic Interference (EMI), are introduced to illustrate the advantages of scientific visualisation in an immersive environment.
