ABSTRACT -- Java Based GIS Viewer is a system of applications running on both the client and the server over the World Wide Web (WWW). The server is responsible for providing all data to the client's requests. The server is a Java Servlet application which is suitable for interfacing with an applet on the client side. Because the geographical data can be very large, it needs to be compressed before transferring it to the client. The client is the graphical user interface which displays information and processes user's input.
