The evolution of economy system worldwide has step to the digital society and society of Knowledges and Learning, which leads Management and Evaluation to play more important role. Therefore any activities and procedures that are designed and developed beyond the procedures of requirement analysis, creating goals, design system, development needs to include procedures such as verification process, evaluation process, project tracking process and evaluation of asset process. For example, in Digital society has Software development as it's crucial composition, which involve the procedures mention above. All societies need to have procedures in order to carry out activities as well.

Software Engineering is the new technology which integrate many area of science such as Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Project Management and other related areas. Software Engineering purposely aimed to develop software for well-operate to meet the expectations under the conditions and rules.

Software Engineering Technology Laboratory (SETEC) consequently established to perform a major role as Research Laboratory which developing knowledges and products in Software Engineering. By provide services such as analysis of requirement, design, develop and evaluate software, specially software that developed by laboratory within NECTEC and other organization that funding by NECTEC.

Besides a major role, Software Engineering Technology Laboratory has proceed in value added of existing products, by design and develop the product to become software package. For example, value - added development of Lexitron: Lexitron is the a dictionary application (Copus – based Dictionary) that build on large database. Software Engineering Technology Laboratory had developed Lexitron on Web Service, developed function to keep statistic of frequently searched vocabulary and create new vocabulary entry to the database. Therefore the improvement was purposely done for expand the target group of user and provide convenience to users.
